Hi everyone!
I just got your songs! Congratulations on a lot of hard work with very successful results. I was so impressed with your lyrics, and particularly because I know you all pulled them together in a very short time. I'll be working with them in the next little while to come up with accompanying music.
What you all could think about is the character and mood of the music you would like for each song. While I will be using the same melodies for several sets of lyrics in each class (so that there aren't too many tunes for you to learn), we have the possibility of writing music in a vast number of styles. There are: classical 'opera' style, Broadway, pop, blues, R and B, rock, Egyptian-themed, Mo-town (Mrs. Taylor liked that one!), jazz, country, etc. The only style I'd like to stay away from is rap...that can work for dialogue but I'd like to write something with a melody. If any of the students have their own melodies for the songs, let me know and I'll "collect" their melodies next time. If not, I will be sitting down to write some tunes! I'd love to read your thoughts about the topic of musical styles, if you have a moment to discuss with your classes and write a quick word about the consensus of the student. Each song can be in a different style, or the whole work can be in a style.
Nevertheless, congrats once again on your awesome work! You guys rock!
